Lacy Knee Highs


Knee high socks for chubby legs are a tall order. This recipe-style pattern will help You knit a pair of lacy knee highs for strong legs.


In birth, I received the ChuggyLegs-gene. Finding a pattern for knee-high socks has been impossible, so I made one myself.My leg has a 15″(37cm) circumference. These socks fit it perfectly and comfortably. Chubbiness is no longer an obstacle to wearing hand-knit knee-highs!These lacy knee highs have a basic turned heel, and a flat toe. The front of the sock is knit with lace, and the back in twisted rib. The calf is shaped, and the ankle fitted. All in all, these are the kind of socks You’ll love to wear around the house on cold winter days.

For yarn, I used Novita’s Nalle in wicked violet. It’s my absolute favorite sock yarn: with 75% wool and 25% polyamide, it’s durable, warm and nice to knit. And it doesn’t even mind trips to the washing machine!
If You don’t have access to this particular yarn, any kind of similar sock yarn will do. Just make sure the gauge is at least a near match.

This is a recipe-styled pattern: it does not hold exact row count for each size, since all legs differ in shape and size. The best result when knitting socks is achieved by trying the sock on, and shaping it as You go along. The pattern has a chart for the lacey bit, and illustrated instructions on how to turn the heel and shape the gusset. The pattern is written in Finnish and English, all in the same .pdf file.


10 cm x 10 cm/4″x4″ square holds 24 stitches and 34 rows of slightly stretched twisted rib.
